Phoebe Longley

My name is Phoebe Longley. I am a 23 year old illustrator from Brighton, but I am now based in London.
I moved to London when I was 18 to do my Foundation course at Central Saint Martins, where I specialised in Fashion Communication. I then moved on to do a degree in Fashion Illustration at London College of Fashion and graduated this year.
My artwork mainly consists of figures and faces and varies from mixed media collages (mainly portraiture) to moving image and animation.  Both are incredibly vibrant, layered and always handmade, only edited digitally.
Creating imagery in the traditional way is very important to me although the images themselves are fairly current.
My latest project was with the band Glowma.  I explored the relationship we have with colour, texture and emotion through stop-motion animation.  This was exhibited through UAL at the Oval Space in East London, as well as projected at Glowma’s shows.

Nile Rabb

My name is Nile Rabb, and I am a musician.

Some mistake my name for Niles, Miles, or even Kyle, but just think Nile; like the river. I’m a singer/songwriter based in New York City.

I graduated from Bates College in 2017 with a degree in Politics. I know what you’re thinking: How did I pivot from Politics to music? I’ve been extremely involved in music since a really young age. It started with elementary school plays and solos at middle school concerts, and drum and saxophone solos at holiday concerts. I sang A Cappella and in a Gospel Choir in High School and continued singing in an A Cappella group when I was in college. My deep-found interest in making music blossomed shortly after I graduated.

I have always loved singing and started by imitating my favourite artists. I simply never thought I could get myself to take it seriously or get past the idea of making myself vulnerable through music. This really changed within the past year. For me, writing music and singing are therapeutic. For years when people asked me if I wanted to pursue a career as a singer, my answer was that I do it for myself and myself alone. Boy, have things changed (for the better). It may have taken me a little while, but I’ve come to the realization that I can do it for a larger audience, myself, and for the love of the art all at the same time.

My dream is to share my gifts with the outside world, and my newfound dreams are slowly coming to fruition. My debut single, ‘Road Trip’ was released in August of 2018. The track is a funky, neo-soul vibe that I was jamming to the second I heard the beat. In October of 2018, my second featured single ‘Not the Same’ produced by Jmmy & Ocean Cat was released. This track is a dance-inspired pop track great for the club, or for any setting to be honest. ‘Not the Same’ has amassed over 50,000 streams on Spotify alone, which has not only been a tremendous eye-opener but has been (along with ‘Road Trip’) a huge supporting catalyst for my musical endeavours and confidence. Both tracks are available to stream on Spotify and Apple Music.

My musical inspirations include Michael Jackson, D’Angelo, Musiq Soulchild, Chris Brown, Andree3000, Marvin Gaye, Ne-Yo, Frank Ocean, Usher and many other artists. My musical horizons and interests are very broad, and I think it’s valuable to appreciate and listen to all types of music and sounds. I grew up listening to 90s music, Hip Hop, R&B/Soul, as well as Pop. I try and draw inspiration from everything I listen to and everything that goes on around me, which in turn helps me establish my musical niche.

As I mentioned before, music is extremely therapeutic. There are countless songs that I can relate to, and I can almost see myself in the artists singing them. This was a huge spark in my decision to pursue music after college. Being able to write down my thoughts, ideas, feelings and desires and use my vocals to portray them has been my most quintessential form of expression. And if my lyrics, vocals, melodies, or beats are able to move someone a certain way, lead them to think a certain way, or stir a feeling within them, then I feel extremely accomplished.

In my opinion, art is one of the universal languages. Not only that, but it also is a tool that helps me to really think about my life, my choices, my goals, and my decision making. As an art form, music specifically is what I understand and believe in. It is my hope that I will be able to continue to make music for a growing audience, music that resonates with people, and importantly, music that keeps me sane and proud of how far I have come as a person.
