Pixie Tan

My name is Pixie Tan (@pixieinspace) and I am a multidisciplinary designer and art director working across moving images, graphic design, set design and fashion.

Moving around disciplines seems to confuse many people, but I really don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all format and that it is through cross-disciplinary work that my new ideas are formed. My work often dips between set design and graphic design, which is hugely exciting as it means that I have the opportunity to work on something new all the time.

I sometimes operate under a collaborative model TO THE POWER OF, which invites artists from various backgrounds and disciplines to work together. A recent iteration included 4 creatives to combine sound design, kinetic design and set design to create a life-size rube-goldberg / marble run installation as part of the Street of Clans festival in Singapore Design Week. I try to collaborate extensively in my work, as I believe that collective strength produces far better results than a lone artist.

Labour and work are two of my favourite topics to explore across my work and I am really excited about currently working on publishing the second issue of The Precariat Self-Help Handbook, which is a compilation of research and resources for precariats to rethink the existing hierarchies of creative labour and the value of work.

Egor Buimister

My name is Egor Buimister (@buimister.art), I am a contemporary artist from Latvia.

I have graduated from Camberwell College of Arts and will start my postgraduate course at Goldsmith’s this Autumn.

My art focuses on the themes of transgression, sacred imagery and memory. I paint emanations, silhouettes and shadows that allow tracing objects that are either long gone or do not fully belong to the world that is given to us in perception.

Besides large painting projects, I also create a series of artworks combined in albums that are united by a common idea and narrative — thus I express my interest in literary strategies and compositional experiments, inherited from the Soviet underground art, namely the Moscow Conceptualists.

In my freelance career, I have shown my art in a number of exhibitions in London and Riga, worked as a writer and journalist, making reports on important art events like Riga Biennial of Contemporary Art and Venice Biennial, as well as participating in an academic conference on the problems of visual art and philosophy, presenting research on the concept of sacred violence in the art of Francis Bacon.

See my website for more of my work.
