I was recently cleaning out my house in the process of moving out, and found the tracing of a memory that is unbelievably special to us.
But it also presented an opportunity for us to pause and think about how far UnderPinned has come.
When you’re fundraising, one of the most common questions you get asked is, “can you send me your deck?” It’s usually a briefing on the business, who the founders are, and what your goals are. It’s also a massively exciting moment, and the start of the prospect of working with someone.
I found a deck that reflected the foundation of the company the UnderPinned team have built in the past two years, albeit with very different branding (light blue?? DIN Pro?!?), with several goals that have morphed, adapted, and been slimmed down into what you see today.
But what hadn’t changed, and what shone through, were two things; our love of the freelance space, and the importance we wanted to place on community.
What UnderPinned is, who we are, and what we want to do has changed so much in the two years that we have been around. What has never changed is who we have wanted to work with (freelancers), and how we wanted to work with them; by creating more than just a tech solution, by making a community too.
And that community has shone through in this crowdfunding process.
Going into day seven with £455,160 invested by 173 people means a lot. But what has been amazing has been going through the list of names and seeing so many people we have worked with, discussed ideas at workshops with, danced with at parties, and seen the belief that they have in UnderPinned for our vision of the future of work.
This process has been fun, stressful, empowering, hectic; if you can name an emotion, someone at UnderPinned HQ has probably felt it this week. But the thing that has made all of the team’s weeks has been seeing the names we know pop up, and knowing people believe in UnderPinned enough to put their hard earned money behind us.
It’s going to be an amazing twenty-three days. Let’s keep building. 🌻
